Pieter Willems
Lawyer Pieter Willems obtained a Master’s degree in Law from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (2017, with distinction) and went on to do a Master-after-Master’s degree in Taxation at University of Antwerp (2018, high distinction). Pieter is currently following a Master-after-Master’s programme in Corporate Law at KUL, and worked as a paralegal at Tuerlinckx Tax Lawyers during his earlier studies.
Pieter has been registered at the Antwerp Bar since October 2017.
His field of work is at the crossroads between the TAX, CORPORATE and PRIVATE aspects of taxation. In addition to general taxation (in the form of advice, objections, exemptions, etc.) he defends cases in corporate tax and commercial litigation. He also assists clients in Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) and restructurings.
Pieter will perform a tax risk assessment for private individuals as well as for companies, keeping in mind that the tax authorities always look at the reality. He does not lose sight of the civil consequences either, knowing full well from experience the key importance of the tax impact on private assets. His ultimate goal is to provide comprehensive asset protection.
At the Tuerlinckx Academy, Pieter lectures during seminars about, among other topics, ‘The burden of proof in tax matters and the burden of proof between administration and taxpayer.’
