Dirk Coveliers is a lawyer but also worked for more than 25 years as a tax specialist in the financial sector. He advises banks, insurance companies, asset managers, the funds and private equity sector with in-depth expertise in investment taxation.

His unique combination of technical expertise and practical knowledge ensures that his advice is not only correct, but above all workable and concrete.

His knowledge covers both direct taxes (such as withholding tax, cayman tax, international information exchange) and indirect taxes such as stock exchange tax, annual tax on securities accounts, bank tax, etc.

Dirk is an experienced partner in applying for tax rulings on financial products and asset structuring or the adjustment/reorganisation of such investment structures, with a focus on efficiency, legal certainty for the tax duties of financial intermediaries and optimisation. Among other things, he is co-author of the favourable ruling for Luxembourg ‘branche 6’ insurance contracts. He also handles cases concerning the annulment of unconstitutional taxes and the recovery of unduly collected taxes on investments.

In 2017, he launched the journal ‘Tijdschrift voor Beleggingsfiscaliteit / Revue Fiscalité des Placments’ (“Tax Clicking”) together with KnopsPublishing, of which he is the editor-in-chief.

He also shares his expertise as a visiting professor at the Fiscale Hogeschool, where he teaches estate planning through a private foundation.
